We typically see people receive two Word of the Day notifications when they have both the Free and Pro app installed on their device. Please check your device to see whether you have two Dictionary.com apps on your device.
If you have two Dictionary.com apps installed:
You may be receiving one notification from each version of the app you have downloaded. One version is the free version (free with ads and optional in-app purchases), and the other is the Pro version (which includes all our premium features at purchase). By deleting the app you are not using, you can reduce the number of notifications you are receiving.
You can also use the device's Notification Controls to manage which alerts you choose to receive. Simply go to your device 'Settings,' then tap on Notification Center (or Notifications), and tap on the Dictionary.com icon. There you will see the available options for notifications from the app and you can toggle the notifications to OFF on one of the apps.
If you have just one Dictionary.com app installed on your device:
Each app is only intended to send one Word of the Day notification. If you've confirmed you only have one Dictionary.com app on your device but are receiving duplicated notifications, we'd recommend a reinstallation.
Please fully uninstall the app, then reinstall from the App or Play Store.
After reinstallation,
- if you had previously made any in-app purchases, you may need to restore your purchases: How do I restore my purchases/upgrades?
- you can also then re-opt into receiving word of the day notifications, if you like. It should set your notifications to rights after the reinstall, so you only get one notification.
