What are Favorites?
Favorites are a feature you can use to save words, in the Dictionary.com apps.
Your 'Favorites' are conveniently located under the Star Icon (⭐️ ) menu (located in the top right corner of the app's homepage.) Your Favorites are listed in the order you add them.
From the home screen: tap the Star icon, to see a slide out with both your recent searches (called 'Recents'), and your 'Favorites' list. To see all your 'Favorites,' tap ''View All.'
- Note: Favorites are saved locally to your device. They are not linked to Dictionary.com user account. Favorites cannot be restored if deleted, cannot be moved across or between apps or devices, and aren't available when viewing our website.
How are Favorites Different Than Word Lists?
In version 10.0.0 of our iOS and Android apps (in early 2022), Dictionary.com introduced accounts and our new Word List feature set into our apps!
When logged into your Dictionary.com user accounts, you can save words to your account, see your word lists across devices (across our apps and website & can login to see the same lists when you move to a new phone), create multiple word lists, and take quizzes or study flashcards from your list(s).
When logged in, you'll save words to your Word List. If you are logged out, the app will default to saving to Favorites (se above).
- To use Word Lists and the associated features of Flashcards and Quizzes, please update to 10.0.0 or later, and sign into a Dictionary.com user account (under the "sign up" option of the app's menu).
- Note that these Dictionary.com user accounts relate to your Word Lists only. They do not relate to any app purchases; app purchases take place solely within the app or play store accounts you used to purchase them from, in the app or play stores.
When will I see Favorites vs. Word Lists?
The "Favorites" experience described in this article is the experience you will have if you are either:
- using version 10.0.0 (or later) but are not logged into a Dictionary.com user account in your app
- using a version of the app that is older than 10.0.0
