We’ve made it easy to search both our Dictionary, and Thesaurus, and to switch seamlessly between the two, in our apps!
- Open your Dictionary.com app, and locate the Dictionary<>Thesaurus Toggle, located directly below the main search bar.
- Toggle to “Dictionary” to search for dictionary definitions. You'll see a blue top banner.
3. Toggle to “Thesaurus” to search for a word’s synonyms. The banner will change to dark orange.
If you are already on a word’s entry, you can easily slide between the Dictionary and Thesaurus view of this word, by tapping on the “Definitions” or “Thesaurus” options, on the white scroll banner. The banner is located below the main word (which is in the large blue or orange field at the top of the page), but above the definitions or synonyms.
When on a word entry, the app will surface tabs where content exists for that term. For example, on the "light" entry (see image above) there is content for this term in both our house Dictionary and Thesaurus corpora, so our app lists both tabs.
- However, were one to search a term that had content in our Dictionary but was not our Thesaurus, the app would show you the Definitions tab but the Thesaurus tab would not be present on that term as no content exists for it in our Thesaurus corpus.
- If one were to search the Dictionary for a term which didn't exist in our Dictionary corpus but was listed in our Thesaurus, you would be taken to the word where you'd see the Thesaurus tab (but no Definitions tab would be listed).
